Immigration crisis in the U.S.: thousands march in caravan in search of the "American dream" in Tapachula, Mexico
This footage was filmed and produced 19 August 2023.
Between 5 and 7 thousand migrants are marching from Tapachula, in the southern Mexican border state of Chiapas, hoping to reach the northern border region with the United States.
They are migrants from Central America, Venezuela, Cuba and Haiti who began the journey on Monday.
Mexico's National Migration Institute, which is tasked with approving or rejecting the applications, has resumed receiving applications and there the migrants normally wait weeks or months to legalize their status, which allows them to work and move freely in the country.
