Torrential rain in Montgomery Village, Maryland on September 8, 2012. As a cold front crossed the eastern United States, a squall line developed producing severe weather from Georgia to New England, with reports of tornadoes in Virginia, New York, and Connecticut. As the storms passed through the Washington DC area, heavy rain and wind occurred in the immediate northern suburbs of DC, however the line intensified over the eastern suburbs with tornado warnings issued for the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay including Annapolis.
