A beautiful video has emerged from Yellowstone National Park in the United States of a grey fox diving under the snow to hunt.

In the video, which was captured last week by a holiday maker, the fox leaps into the air and then dives head first under the snow.

The fox surfaces with a small rodent in its mouth, most likely a vole or a shrew.

The grey fox is the only canid (dog-like mammal) whose natural range spans both North and South America and it is the only American canid that can climb trees.

I was on a tour with Yellowstone Vacations (based out of West Yellowstone, MT) in Yellowstone National Park. We saw a fox about thirty feet off the road, obviously hunting--ears pointed forward, staying extremely still, etc. We watched it for about 5 minutes and then were lucky enough to capture his successful pounce!
