Japan: LIFT Aircraft unveils its HEXA flying vehicle at technology fair in Japan
Tokyo, Japan - May 18, 2024
Cars that fly or drive themselves, inventions that aim to reduce waste in the fashion industry and a robot that performs diagnostic tests on patients are just some of the technological advances on show at the SusHi Tech 2024 fair in Tokyo this May.
With the expectation of positioning the Japanese capital as a sustainable city and attracting half a million visitors, this international technology exhibition will be attended by 4,000 start-ups from 40 different cities presenting proposals such as 'shops of the future' or 'robot furniture'.
With next-generation mobility being one of the star areas of the exhibition, the Japanese SkyDrive flying car (SD-03), a self-driving Honda vehicle and an autonomous bus, among other devices, are on display at the fair.
Also at the event, US company LIFT Aircraft, founded in 2017, organised the first in a series of flight demonstrations of its HEXA flying vehicle on Friday.
The company hoisted its electric-powered aircraft, with 18 independent motors and propellers, in a flight that was witnessed by around 200 people and will be repeated in the coming weeks.
With a carbon fibre structure, this flying car weighs 191.87 kilograms and complies with the US Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) classification of 'powered ultralight aircraft', so no licence is required to fly it, although training is recommended, explained its creators.
LIFT Aircraft's aircraft, which can land on both land and water, operates on autopilot and is controlled by a three-axis joystick or a seven-inch touchscreen.
