Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil - May 20, 2024

The United States announced on Monday that it will allocate one million dollars (about 920,980 euros) to support the Brazilian government in the face of the severe floods that have hit the south of the country for the past two weeks and in which at least 158 people have lost their lives.

This was communicated by US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell to Brazil's Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, Maria Laura da Rocha, during the meeting of the High Level Dialogue between the two governments that took place this Monday in Washington.

In particular, Campbell expressed his "solidarity with those affected by the severe flooding" and informed that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will increase the aid committed for the floods in Brazil to one million dollars, the State Department said in a communique.
