Turkey: Drugs Gang's GBP 3 Million Fleet Of Ferraris, Bentleys And Porsches Turned Into Police Cars
[Note: undated footage]
A fleet of 21 luxury Ferraris, Porsches and Bentleys seized from a biker drugs gang in Turkey has been turned into a GBP 3 million fleet of police cars.
The supercars were seized in a police crackdown on the notorious Hells Angel-style Comanchero motorcycle gang network in Istanbul.
The entire fleet was sent to official police mechanics who repainted the lot in official white and blue with full traffic police badging, sirens and warning lights.
Police chiefs unveiled the new squad at a special presentation and the cars are expected to begin their duties in the New Year.
The confiscations came when Comanchero boss Hakan Ayik was seized with 36 other suspected gang members. Ayik had been on the run for more than a decade as the mastermind behind the drug-trafficking activities of the Australia-based biker gang,
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya had said last month that the gang was involved in international drug trafficking and money laundering.
Police also seized assets from 55 suspects, worth around TRY 4.5 billion (GBP 130 million), including bank accounts, property, and shares in 22 companies.
Ayik and co-boss Duax Hohepa Ngakuru trafficked drugs around the world from South America and laundered their cash in Turkey, say police. Virtually every member of the gang was on Interpol's most-wanted list.
