The EURO 2024 football tournament officially kicked off with the opening match in the southern German city of Munich on Friday, as host country Germany won Scotland 5-1, marking a strong start to the championships.

Germany is no stranger to tournament wins, having won four World Cups and three European Championships. The country has also gained some fans as a host of the events. EURO 2024 is taking place across ten world-class stadiums in Germany.

For Scottish fans, just being part of the European championships was a significant achievement.

Scotland went into the match as expected underdogs. Still, for the tens of thousands of Scottish fans who descended on Munich for the championship opener against Germany, it was more about the experience than the outcome.

Despite a disappointing start for Scotland, their fans have shown unwavering dedication to their national team.

While outnumbered, German fans loudly celebrated their team's victory in the opening match of the Championships.

From kilts to lederhosen, beer to currywurst, an estimated 200,000 Scotland supporters, also known as the Tartan Army, are expected to travel to Germany for the three group stage matches, according to figures released by the British consulate in Munich.

For those unable to secure a ticket to watch a match at one of the stadiums, fan zones have been set up with big screens, music, and activities for the entire family.
Some fans praised the organizer's impressive preparations.

It's been 26 years since Scotland played in a major men's tournament overseas and 32 years since they last met Germany in the European Championship finals.
