Calabozo, Venezuela - July 29, 2024

After the presidential elections, held on Sunday, July 28, the ruling party - led by Nicolas Maduro - was proclaimed winner, while the opposition - led by Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, denounced electoral fraud.

In this context, and after Maduro's proclamation, people opposed to the ruling government began to demonstrate against the election results in different areas of the country. One of these protests took place in the State of Falcon, where an enraged mob knocked down the statue of former President Hugo Chavez Frias. The moment was recorded and the images quickly went viral in social networks.

"And it's going to fall, and it's going to fall, this government is going to fall!" the demonstrators chanted as they marched, while being dispersed by the National Guard with tear gas and rubber bullets. Violence broke out in several cities, and in places such as La Guaira, Falcon and Guarico, protests against Nicolas Maduro were generated.
