On Sunday afternoon, August 18, 2024, a sudden downpour in Coalville, Utah, led to unexpected flooding, catching one family off guard as they awaited the arrival of out-of-town relatives, including grandparents.

Initially dismissing her husband’s alarmed shout of “flood!” as an exaggeration, the homeowner quickly realized the seriousness of the situation when she saw water rushing down the mountain toward their window wells. Grabbing her phone, she captured the dramatic scene as the floodwaters overwhelmed their property.

Despite the deluge, the basement remained dry, and their horses bravely endured the 5 inches of water on the property.

On a Sunday afternoon, it started down-pouring. We were waiting for my husbands family to arrive (that’s who was in the vehicle, including his out of town grandparents). My husband happened to look out of the windows to see where his family was and yelled, “flood!” I assumed he was exaggerating and walked over and when I saw the river flooding down the mountain yo our window wells, I elbowed him out of the way and videoed! Our whole property flooded but our basement was fine! The horses were troopers in their 5” of water.
