Formosa, Argentina - July 21, 2024

According to various conservation organizations in Argentina, there are between 200 and 250 specimens left, 20 of them in the Chaco region of our country (Formosa, Chaco, Salta and Santiago del Estero).

The jaguar (Panthera onca) is the largest feline on the American continent. This animal is key to maintaining the health of the ecosystem: its presence regulates, through predation or competition, the populations of other species, with a “cascading” effect throughout the food chain.

Fortunately, several reintroduction projects led by various organizations are returning the jaguar to its natural habitat. A reintroduction center in Ibera, managed by the Rewilding Argentina Foundation, is an example of these efforts.
