Beirut, Lebanon - October 03, 2024

At least six people were killed and several others were wounded in the latest Israeli airstrike on central Beirut in the early hours of Thursday morning, Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health said.

The no-warning hit overnight targeted a medical facility affiliated with Hezbollah in the al-Bachoura area, an apartment building located only meters away from the Prime Minister's office and the Lebanese Parliament.

The airstrike also led to significant damage to nearby houses and parked vehicles. Ambulances and civil defense teams have rushed to the area for rescue.

Israel's military said it launched a "precision" attack.

Shortly before the strike on central Beirut, Israel launched three strong airstrikes on the Haret Hreik area in Beirut's southern suburbs, al-Jadeed local TV channel reported.

Fears are growing of a wider regional war in the Middle East as Israel continues its attacks on Lebanon following Iran's biggest retaliatory strike on Israel which took place on Tuesday.

Eight Israeli soldiers were killed in ground combat in southern Lebanon, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said on Wednesday.
