China - December 11, 2024 Chinese President Xi meets heads of major international economic organizations (Voice_over) During the meeting with heads of major international economic organizations, President Xi said China is willing to work with these organizations to practice multilateralism, promote international cooperation and support the development of countries in the Global South. The heads of the international economic organizations praised the achievements of China's economic development, saying they are optimistic about China's economic outlook. They also expressed their commitment to working with China to safeguard free trade and economic globalization. Highlighting sustaining global economic growth as a major challenge, President Xi called for countries to collaborate to build an open global economic system, focusing on innovation and seizing opportunities in areas like digital economy, AI, and low-carbon technologies. He also warned against protectionist approaches such as decoupling and severing supply chains and emphasized the economic interdependence as an opportunity for mutual benefit rather than a risk. President Xi also briefed them China's recent significant policy actions, noting that after 40 years of rapid growth, China has entered a stage of high-quality development, contributing around 30 percent to global economic growth. He pledged that China will continue to drive the world's economic engine, expanding openness and aligning with international trade rules. Xi highlighted the progress of the Belt and Road Initiative over the past decade, encouraging international economic organizations to participate into the initiative. He also called for the organizations to push for the reform in the system of global economic governance and promote a global governance system that is fairer and more equitable and that can increase the representation and voice of the Global South. The Chinese president also reiterated China's stance in China-US relations, saying that China is willing to maintain dialogue, expand cooperation and manage differences with the U.S. government to push bilateral relations toward a steady, healthy and sustainable direction.
