Nearly blizzard conditions in Dumas Texas on January 20th 2025
I'm a local storm chaser for the news here in Amarillo Texas. On January 20th 2025 I was tracking a reinforcing cold front with Arctic Air as it plunged south down through the southern plains. Unbeknownst to me as soon as I got near Dumas Texas on highway 87 the storm decided to accelerate with winds over 35 mph and heavy blowing snow. This inevitably triggered the first snow squall warning that NWS Amarillo had ever issued.
This was at the time the snow squall warning began on January 20th 2025 while I was sitting in the parking lot off of the highway 87 in Dumas Texas. Full whiteout conditions and rapid temperature drops with heavy blowing snow.
