Eskom Loadshedding is back in South Africa!

Buy video

After almost a year with no loadshedding (where we've been conveniently load-shedding free around our election season), our power utility - Eskom - is back with stage 3 loadshedding, which is the term used for scheduled power cuts in doses of 2 hours each, in order to ease the burden on our power grid. Loadshedding is usually instituted after power plants break down, but in the middle of summer, load shedding takes on a new kind of horror for the young, old and infirm: with temperatures hovering in the mid to upper thirties, and even higher when windows are closed at night for safety reasons, the lack of air-conditioning or even fans means that power cuts become a health hazard.
