US: Ice Storm Chaos Leaves Blue Ridge Parkway in Ruins as Staff Battle Fallen Trees
United States - February 28, 2025 Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia - Park staff are working tirelessly to clear a chaotic mess of fallen, hung, and hazardous trees left in the wake of brutal ice storms. The popular route, a lifeline for locals and tourists alike, has been battered beyond recognition. A video, filmed by a staff member right here in Virginia, pulls back the curtain on the devastation, showing trees and debris strewn across the Parkway like a warzone. It’s a sight that’s hard to stomach. The National Park Service shared the footage, captioned simply: "View of trees and debris laying on the Parkway." But it’s more than just a pile of branches—it’s a symbol of the havoc wreaked on this region. Facebook user Barb Spears, clearly shaken, weighed in on the video with a grim take. She wrote: "I'm not sure whether people who don’t live in this region understand how bad this storm ravaged the area. There are highways, including the Parkway, that were washed out and the only thing left is open space. I’ve never seen anything like this and hope to never see it again. People are still suffering and have lost everything they had including family members." Her words paint a bleak picture. Entire stretches of road—gone. Homes, lives, and loved ones—swept away. Parkway staff soldier on, but the scale of the destruction is staggering.
