Nepal: Nepalese Muslims gather for Eid al-Fitr prayer in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, Nepal - March 31, 2025 Nepalese Muslims gather for Eid al-Fitr prayer in Kathmandu KATHMANDU, NEPAL - MARCH 31, 2025: Muslims in Nepal gathered at the Pancha Kashmiri Takiya Masjid in Kathmandu on Monday, March 31, to perform the Eid al-Fitr prayer, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Worshippers filled the mosque early in the morning, engaging in prayers and religious rituals. Following the prayer, they exchanged greetings and well wishes, celebrating the festive occasion in an atmosphere of unity and spirituality. Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr with prayers, feasts, and social gatherings marking the end of Ramadan's month-long dawn-to-dusk fasting. It is the first one of the two main festivals in Islam, the other being Eid al-Adha. Some countries began to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, while others mark the festival on Monday. Religious authorities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait and Bahrain said the new crescent of Shawwal (10th month of the Islamic calendar) was sighted Saturday and Eid al-Fitr will be observed Sunday. Authorities in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, and Türkiye made similar announcements. Eid al-Fitr, however, will be celebrated Monday in Oman, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Algeria and Tunisia as the new moon could not be sighted. Iraq’s Sunni and Shia Muslims will also mark the festival on Monday. Muslims in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh will also welcome the festival on Monday.
