(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ONE OF ENGINEERS HASAN HACCI SAYING: "The Aleppo Water Station consists of three filtration centers and the terrorist organization PKK/YPG had previously targeted the facility with suicide drones and rockets. Two facility workers lost their lives during the attacks and caused significant damage to the water filtration center. The al-Hafsa Water Station, one of the most important main sources providing water to Aleppo and Manbij, has suffered a significant decrease in capacity due to the conflict and damage. The water pumping rate has dropped to as low as 60%. Despite the shortage of spare parts, maintenance teams being unable to access the site, and security risks, we continued our work. Maintenance teams were able to reach the facility again, spare parts were more easily provided, and the repair process accelerated. With the help of associations and government institutions, the entire facility's maintenance and repair were being carried out, and it is expected to return to normal soon, making water pumping operations more efficient. In the upcoming period, the water pumping rate to Aleppo will increase." 4. VARIOUS INTERIOR SHOTS OF AL-HAFSA WATER STATION/ WORKERS 5. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) ONE OF ENGINEER SHEHER AHMED SAYING: "After the agreement, we can reach all projects connected to the main station. Maintenance work is continuing. In the upcoming period, the water pumping rate to Aleppo will increase. With the next phase of maintenance, water will also be supplied to Manbij district." 6. WORKERS AT WATER STATION'S YARDALEPPO, SYRIA - APR. 15: Reconstruction work is underway at a key water station in northern Syria’s Aleppo province that was heavily damaged by attacks carried out by the terrorist organization PKK/YPG, with the goal of restoring water supply to 3 million civilians. Aerial footage captured by Anadolu shows the current state of the facility as workers continue repair efforts. The facility, located in the al-Hafsa region of Aleppo’s northern countryside, was targeted by drone and rocket attacks in December and January, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and significant damage to the second filtration center. Following the assault, the station has been operating at just 40% of its capacity. Maintenance and repair operations began after an agreement was reached between Syrian President Ahmed Shara and Mazloum Abdi Shaheen on March 10, allowing access to the site and the delivery of spare parts. Engineer Hasan Hacci told Anadolu Agency that the Aleppo Water Station, which includes three main filtration centers, has faced repeated attacks by PKK/YPG militants, including suicide drones. “The water pumping rate dropped to as low as 60%,” he said. “Despite limited access to spare parts, security risks, and initial restrictions on reaching the site, we continued our work.” Hacci stated that the ongoing maintenance is being supported by associations and government institutions and that full operations are expected to resume soon. “In the upcoming period, the water pumping rate to Aleppo will increase,” he noted, adding that repairs will eventually extend water access to the Manbij district as well. Engineer Sheher Ahmed, working at the Aleppo city center filtration facility, confirmed that approximately 13,500 cubic meters of water are currently being supplied to the city every hour. “After the agreement, we’ve been able to access all projects linked to the main station. Maintenance is ongoing, and we expect further improvements soon,” he said.
