Marrakesh, Morocco - May 13, 2025 U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 166th Air Refueling Squadron, 121st Air Refueling Wing, Ohio National Guard, conducted simulated air-to-air refueling on May 13, 2025, as part of African Lion 2025. The operation involved a U.S. Air Force KC-135R Stratotanker and 16 Royal Moroccan Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons. The training was designed to maintain currency and qualification. The skies above Marrakesh served as the staging ground for this dramatic aerial maneuver. Crews worked together to perform realistic and dynamic midair refueling operations. African Lion 2025 is the largest annual military exercise in Africa. It includes more than 50 nations, seven NATO allies, and 10,000 troops. The exercise is led by the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa, on behalf of U.S. Africa Command. The goal is to strengthen cooperation and improve readiness for complex, multi-domain combat scenarios. This year’s exercise runs from April 14 to May 23, 2025, and takes place across Ghana, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia. The training pushes forces to prepare, deploy, and win under challenging conditions.
