UK: Princess Of Wales Blesses Royal Navy Warship In Grand Naming Ceremony
United Kingdom - May 22, 2025 Scotstoun, Scotland – Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales officially named HMS Glasgow in a powerful ceremony at the BAE Systems shipbuilding facility. Accompanied by her husband, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, the Princess was led by the Second Sea Lord, Vice Admiral Sir Martin Connell. She performed the traditional act of smashing a bottle of whisky against the hull, bestowing good luck upon the Royal Navy’s newest warship. HMS Glasgow is the first of eight cutting-edge Type 26 frigates, designed to be at the forefront of naval warfare. Cheers erupted from hundreds of friends, family members, workers, and VIPs as the Princess, known in Scotland as The Duchess of Rothesay, delivered the historic words: “I name this ship Glasgow. May God bless her and all who serve in her.”
