SAHAR AL-NAJJAR, SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic) KHAN YOUNIS, PALESTINE - MAY 24: Dr. Ala Al-Najjar, a Palestinian doctor, lost nine of her children in an Israeli attack. Her only remaining child, Adam, is fighting for his life in the hospital. Dr. Al-Najjar had left home for her shift at Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis, leaving her ten children and husband at home. Shortly afterward, an Israeli missile struck her house, killing nine of her children and leaving her husband, Hamdi, and son, Adam, critically injured. Both are now receiving treatment in intensive care at the same hospital where she works. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing more than 53,900 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
