Students demonstrate static electricity with Van de Graaff generator in Tucson, Arizona, USA
On March 1, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona, USA, @Clinks_class shared a video of a fascinating demonstration of static electricity. In the video, students—insulated from the ground while sitting on tables—held hands one by one until they were all charged. The last student in line gave a fist bump to someone standing on the ground, instantly discharging the built-up energy through the group and into the ground. They were demonstrating the Van de Graaff generator, which produces around 500,000 volts with almost no current, making the shock dramatic but safe.
