FRENCH ACTIVIST AND MEMBER OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, RIMA HASSAN SPEAKING TO REPORTER PARIS, FRANCE - JUNE 15: Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in Paris on Sunday, June 15, to march in solidarity with civilians in Gaza, amid growing international criticism of Israel's military actions. The rally was organized by French trade unions and began at Place de la Republique at 2 p.m. local time. Waving Palestinian flags and wearing keffiyehs despite the heat, protesters marched to Place de la Nation chanting slogans such as “We are all children of Gaza,” “Free Palestine,” and “Israel is a killer, Macron is complicit.” The demonstrators called for an end to what they described as genocide in Gaza and demanded that Israel allow humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave. Among those joining the march were Rima Hassan, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), and French activists Reva Viard and Baptiste Andre—crew members of the Madleen, a humanitarian ship recently blocked by Israel in international waters. The ship was part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition aiming to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza. Israel has blocked the entry of humanitarian, food, and medical supplies into Gaza since March 2, leading to widespread famine and the near-collapse of the health care system. Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive against Gaza since October 2023, killing nearly 55,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
