The arrests, which took place shortly after court appearances, have sparked criticism from immigrant rights advocates, who say courthouse enforcement undermines due process and deters community members from seeking legal protection. ICE has defended the operation as part of targeted enforcement efforts. ICE is reportedly holding more than 59,000 people in detention facilities across the U.S. with nearly half said to have no criminal history.
