China: Chinese smart robot mowers cut through the competition
Storyline: Chinese smart robot mowers cut through the competition [Voice_over] It's like a Roomba, but for your grass. Robotic lawn mowers made in China are carving out a place for themselves on the global stage. In Beijing, a robot mower manufacturer demonstrates one of its products that uses virtual boundaries that you draw on your phone, eliminating the need for a physical barrier. With the AI-powered Assist Mapping feature, the machine identifies the edges of the lawn during the mapping process. [Sound_bite] Ren Guanjiao, CEO, robot mower manufacturer: "Our vision-based system automatically maps out the boundaries, then moves forward accordingly. When the edges are clear, the smart technology can detect exactly where the boundaries are." [Voice_over] Meanwhile, some models are now offering more than basic trimming. A Shenzhen-based company that makes the machines has launched a version with "lawn printing" functions, allowing users to program custom patterns, logos, or even messages into their grass. [Sound_bite] Xie Zhiqiang, Product manager, robot mower manufacturer: "With this 'lawn printing' feature, customers can just type in a letter or select a design in the app, and the mower will cut that exact shape into their grass." [Voice_over] Data shows, the export value of China's smart robot mowers exceeded 1 billion US dollars in Q1 this year, marking an increase of nearly 60 percent year on year.
