Sophie, a mother from Cockeysville in Maryland, posted a video of her gentle parenting style when her 3-year-old son knocked over a cup of coffee leaving viewers divided.

The mum told Newsflare: "I was filming myself making a coffee and my 3-year-old wanted to help. We were running late to a play date and my husband and older son were already in the car. The coffee spilled and I calmly cleaned it up and we went on with our day. We didn’t let a little mess get in our way of a fun time."

One viewer said: "It's ok to say to your kids you don't need their help in that moment. They don't need to participate in every situation. But I'm glad you didn't yell at them."

Another commented: "This is that gentle parenting b*******."

"I can't for the life of me do gentle parenting. I praise you for it but it's so hard for me," another mum said.

Sophie's footage has racked up more than 1 million views on Instagram.
