DRONE SHOT SHOWING MASSIVE “SAVE THE HOSTAGES, END THE WAR” SLOGAN PAINTED ON GROUND, SURROUNDED BY DEMONSTRATORS TEL AVIV, ISRAEL - JULY 26: Tens of thousands of Israelis protested Saturday, July 27, in central Tel Aviv to demand a deal that would secure the release of all hostages in the Gaza Strip, according to media reports.
Demonstrators gathering at Hostages Square called on the government to halt the fighting and reach an agreement to bring back those held in Gaza.
Despite the protest reflected growing frustration over the ongoing conflict and concerns for the safety of the hostages, the calls, held almost every week, have yet to produce the desired outcome.
Hamas has repeatedly affirmed its readiness to release all Israeli hostages “in one batch” in exchange for an end to the genocide and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court, backed away from finalizing the latest agreement and resumed the war on March 18.
Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 59,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages.
Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
