..TEL AVIV, ISRAEL - AUGUST 2, 2025: Drone captured hundreds of Israeli demonstrators gathering in Tel Aviv's "Hostages Square" on Saturday, Aug. 2, some sitting amid razor wire barriers as they demanded immediate government action to secure the release of captives held in Gaza. The protest comes after Israel's withdrawal from ceasefire talks in Doha this week. The emotional demonstration, organized by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, saw protesters chanting slogans while positioned between coiled razor wire installations - a symbolic representation of the barriers to their loved ones' freedom. The rally followed Hamas and Islamic Jihad's release of videos showing deteriorating conditions of two Israeli captives, Avitar David and Rom Braslavski. Einav Zangauker, mother of captive Matan Zangauker, addressed the crowd from within the razor wire perimeter: "Our children are being crushed between the barbed wires of politics. They can't survive much longer in these conditions." Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beiteinu party supported the protesters' urgency, posting: "Every day of delay is another turn of the wire around our hostages' necks." Friday's release of footage showing emaciated captive Avitar David prompted fresh anger. His sister Yael wrote: "The wires cutting into his flesh are visible on his bones now." Islamic Jihad's subsequent video of Rom Braslavski showed similar deterioration, with his family stating: "He's being slowly strangled by hunger and neglect." Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza for 18 years and, since March 2, has sealed all border crossings, severely restricting humanitarian aid and exacerbating the enclave’s already dire conditions. Palestinian authorities say at least 600 aid trucks per day are needed to meet the basic needs of Gaza’s 2.4 million residents.
