FIREFIGHTING AIRCRAFTS DROPPING RETARDANT BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA - AUG. 5 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “BRITISH COLUMBIA WILDFIRE SERVICE” HANDOUT —EDITORIAL USE ONLY—: A wildfire burning near Northside Mount Mackie, between Castlegar and Rossland, has grown to an estimated 153 hectares, Canadian officials said Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The blaze, located about 1.5 kilometers (nearly 1 mile) south of Highway 3, remains classified as “out of control.” Ground crews, heavy machinery, and aircraft are actively working to contain the fire. Airtankers supported suppression efforts Sunday and continue to assist as needed.

Authorities urged motorists not to stop along the highway and to remain alert to changing road conditions.
