VARIOUS OF AID CONVOY MOVING TOWARD SUWAYDA SUWAYDA, SYRIA - AUGUST 6: The Syrian Arab Red Crescent delivered a humanitarian aid convoy to the southern city of Suwayda on Wednesday, August 6, where clashes had erupted in recent days, providing food parcels, hygiene kits, and medical supplies for approximately 50,000 people. The aid shipment included essential relief items to support civilians affected by the recent violence in the area. The operation is part of the organization's ongoing efforts to meet urgent humanitarian needs in southern Syria. On July 13, clashes broke out between Bedouin Arab tribes and armed Druze groups in Suwayda. Violence escalated, and Israeli airstrikes followed, targeting Syrian military positions and infrastructure, including in Damascus. While Israel cited the “protection of Druze communities” as a pretext for its attacks, most Druze leaders in Syria have publicly rejected any foreign interference and reaffirmed their commitment to a unified Syrian state. The new Syrian government has been working to reestablish order nationwide since the ouster of former regime leader Bashar al-Assad on Dec. 8, 2024.
