Murcia, Spain - August 01, 2025 A massive Capricornid fireball blazed through the sky over Murcia at 00:12 CEST, creating a dramatic spectacle more luminous than the Moon. The meteor, officially designated SPMN010825I, appeared just after midnight and was visible from multiple regions across Spain. It disintegrated at an altitude of 80 kilometers above sea level. Witnesses in Cehegín observed the meteor shooting upward from the radiant and heading toward the zenith, describing the moment as one where “it turned to day for an instant.” In Benamaurel, Granada, observers captured the bright green glow of the fireball. Experts noted this coloration was caused by the ablation of magnesium- and iron-rich silicate minerals. From La Aparecida in Alicante, cameras documented the moment the meteoroid broke apart. The resulting shockwave exposed fine grain material, producing an intense final burst of light. Another view from the coves of Santa Pola also recorded the event. The spectacular display contributed valuable data for detailed astrometric analysis.
