BASE jumper smashes daring wingsuit Guinness World Records attempt

BASE jumper Sven Ugau successfully smashed his Guinness World Records attempt of hitting the most targets during a wingsuit BASE jump.

The footage, captured by cameras and GoPros set up by Bert Verheye, shows Ugau launching himself off a mountain near Walenstadt, Switzerland.

The wingsuiter then flies past a ground camera as he hits several targets filled with coloured powder.

Verheye told Newsflare: "Sven Ugau, the world record holder for target flying in wingsuit BASE jumping completed a record-breaking feat that, in his view, won’t be matched any time soon. It was not only one of the most physically demanding stunts he had ever attempted, but also one of the most visually stunning.

"With both wings of his suit, he flew through 10 pine sticks, each 9mm thick and mounted with three cylinders of colored powder. At speeds of over 200 km/h, he broke through the sticks, releasing the powder into his wake. The tumbling cylinders were caught in his aerodynamic vortex, creating a spectacular display of color in the sky.

"Sven spent years experimenting with sticks and colored powder, but this project exceeded even his wildest expectations. Naturally, hitting 10 sticks and releasing 30 color blasts took a toll on the body. To reduce injury, he incorporated special foam padding in the arm wings and wore reinforced motorcycle gloves for extra protection.

"Even so, bruising was unavoidable—but the key was to avoid broken bones and complete the stunt successfully. Sven also used the exact same wingsuit from the 2017 triple target jump. With this new attempt, damage to the suit was inevitable: the broken sticks became sharp, causing small tears in the fabric, which we patched up with duct tape between practice jumps to keep the project on track.

"We are currently in the process of submitting this record for official recognition by Guinness World Records."
