Nags Head, United States - August 24, 2025 U.S. Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet shared a first-person perspective of their lifeboat operating in the surf zone in the aftermath of Hurricane Erin. While the storm has passed, offshore waters remain extremely dangerous. Footage shows the 47-foot motor lifeboat maneuvering through powerful waves. Crews must “square up” to the swells, as any impact outside the bow could knock the vessel down or even roll it over. “This is training for the real conditions we face,” the station noted. “Mayday calls don’t only come in when the water is calm.” The evolution emphasizes the skill and precision required for rescue operations in hazardous surf, ensuring crews are prepared to respond to emergencies even in extreme sea conditions.
