This is the amusing moment a wild heron hitched a ride on a car bonnet in China.

Footage shows the bird standing upright as the vehicle maneuvers along a provincial highway near the Poyang Lake wetlands in Jiangxi.

The white-feathered creature can be seen balancing itself as the driver navigates the curved road on August 24.

It even adjusts its stance each time the four-wheeler passes over bumpy sections of the highway.

At one point, it stretches its wings and turns its neck to observe the scenery.

The driver said: 'I didn't want it to get hurt, so I kept a steady speed and avoided sudden braking or sharp turns.'

The heron took off near the reeds by the lake and flew away after traveling about 15 km (9.3 mi).
