Storyline: US Fed cuts interest rate by 25 basis points [Voice_over] It's just a quarter of a percent, but the U.S. central bank's latest interest rate cut is loaded with huge expectations and now partisan politics. The Federal Reserve lowered the rate that drives much of the economy to try to revive flagging job growth. But lowering that rate also risks accelerating inflation that's been creeping back up over the summer and compounded by tariffs on imported goods. [Sound_bite] Steve Hanke, Professor of Applied Economics, Johns Hopkins University: "Markets now are indicating that in the October meeting, there's a 96 percent chance there will be another 25 basis point cut. And in the December meeting, a 91 percent chance of yet another 25 basis point cut. So this is kind of on the Fed's schedule. The Fed basically has all the cards, Trump doesn't. Trump is making a lot of noise, but Fed is pretty much doing what it wants to do. They're focusing a lot by the way, focusing on the labor market which is starting to get soft.
