GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - SEPT. 27: At least 55 Palestinians, including a journalist, were killed and scores of others injured since dawn Saturday in relentless Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, medical sources said.
Nine people were killed and others injured when Israeli warplanes bombed a house in the Kalboush area of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
Three bodies were brought to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, and several others were wounded following an Israeli airstrike on a house in the town of al-Zawaida in central Gaza.
Four Palestinians, including two children, were killed, and others injured in an Israeli strike targeting a civilian gathering in Nuseirat refugee camp.
In the vicinity of the Netzarim corridor, three Palestinians waiting for aid were killed by Israeli gunfire near the US-Israeli distribution center.
Two more Palestinians were also killed in the ongoing Israeli attacks on the central strip, though no details were immediately available about them.
In Deir al-Balah, Palestinian journalist Mohammed al-Daya was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted a displacement tent, bringing the death toll of journalists killed since Oct. 2023 to 252.
Nine more Palestinians were killed and several others injured in an Israeli strike on a home in the Shati refugee camp in western Gaza City.
At least 11 bodies were recovered after an Israeli strike on a house on al-Hajar Street in eastern Gaza City, while others remained trapped under the rubble.
In the al-Rimal neighborhood in western Gaza City, a Palestinian was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted an apartment on al-Wehda Street.
In the Shejaya neighborhood in the east of the city, another Palestinian was killed by gunfire from an Israeli drone.
Seven Palestinians were also killed in separate attacks on neighborhoods in Gaza City, though no details were immediately available.
On Al-Rashid Street west of the city, which Tel Aviv claims is a “safe” route for displacement toward the south, a Palestinian was killed and others were injured in an Israeli strike that targeted a group of displaced people.
In Khan Younis of the southern enclave, a Palestinian was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted a house in the Joura al-Aqqad area.
In Rafah, several Palestinians waiting for aid were injured by Israeli gunfire near a distribution center in the al-Shakoush area.
Two Palestinians were also killed in Israeli attacks on different areas of the southern Gaza Strip, though no details were available about them.
Ismail Al-Thawabta, director-general of the Gaza Media Office, said about 93% of the total displacement tents in the Strip have collapsed and are no longer suitable for living, emphasizing that there are no alternatives due to Israel's tightened closure of the crossings since last March.
In a statement sent to Anadolu, he said: “Out of 135,000 tents, 125,000 have collapsed and become uninhabitable.”
Over nearly two years of the war, tens of thousands of displacement tents have been damaged by Israeli bombardments, either directly hit or affected by strikes in their vicinity, while others have deteriorated due to natural factors such as extreme summer heat and winter winds.
By November 2024, the Gaza government had reported that 100,000 tents had worn out.
Al-Thawabta explained that the displacement tents are now “scattered randomly on roadsides and near unsanitary areas, in an environment lacking the most basic requirements of life.”
With continued waves of displacement from Gaza City toward the south, he stressed that the central and southern governorates “can no longer accommodate more people, especially in the al-Mawasi area (west of Khan Younis), which has become overcrowded with hundreds of thousands of families.”
According to him, since the beginning of the genocide, nearly two million Palestinians have been subjected to forced displacement, while the Israeli army has directly targeted around 293 shelter centers.
The Israeli army has killed nearly 66,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza since October 2023. Months of air and ground assaults have left Gaza largely uninhabitable, pushing its population into famine.
