A rare beetle has recently been discovered in Zhenba County, Hanzhong City of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, marking the province's first sighting of a living specimen of this species in the wild. The bright-colored cheirotonus jansoni, endemic to China, is often referred to as the giant panda of the insect world due to its unique appearance and rarity. The species has high requirements for its living environment, such as places with rich forest vegetation, uncontaminated air and water resources. Traditionally, its distribution has been largely confined to southern provinces like Fujian and Guangdong. Once declared extinct in 1982 due to long-term absence of sightings, the species was rediscovered in Jiangxi Province 22 years later. In 2020, a dead specimen was found in Yang County of Hanzhong. SHOTLIST: Zhenba County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, northwest China - Recent 1. Various of cheirotonus jansoni in wild; 2. Various of amateur footage of cheirotonus jansoni in wild. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
