What began as a serene sun-tanning session turned into a high-stakes underwater rescue when Brooke, a doctor and freedive instructor, heard her phone tumble from a boat into 30-metre-deep water. The video, posted to Instagram, has since gained 153,000 views and sparked admiration for her quick thinking and freediving skills.

Spotting the remnants of the splash, Brooke dove off the board without hesitation. Knowing the phone would be unrecoverable if it sank past 10 metres, she fought her way down, swallowing water and grasping blindly. After three missed attempts, she finally secured the phone at around 8 metres deep and surfaced—shocked that no one on the boat had witnessed the plunge.

I was trying to record an aesthetic video of me lying on the paddle board sun tanning in Fiji island when I heard my phone drop onto the boats second level of deck…then the first level deck… and then SPLASH into 30 meter water. I look up and seem the remnants of the splash and I dive off the board into the water. I know if I don’t get this phone back within the first 10m it’s gone forever. I’m swallowing water and fighting my way down grasping at the phone. After 3 misses I finally get a hold of my phone at about 8m deep. I come back to the surface and can’t believe no one on the boat witnessed that.
