France - October 05, 2025 Footage filmed by Chloe Olmeta Giglioli shows a wildfire tearing through scrub-covered hillsides in Haute-Corse on October 5, 2025. Intense orange flames advanced along a ridge under a clear blue sky as thick black smoke billowed. The video captures two simultaneous blazes in Saint-Florent and Oletta that together destroyed between 400 and 440 hectares of maquis vegetation. Strong winds fed the fires, which began in the late morning. A red helicopter hovered low to make water drops while more than 180 firefighters fought the blazes. During the day the response included two Dash and two Canadair aircraft. Officials said the fires were fully contained by October 6. No injuries were reported; some material damage occurred but homes were spared.
