The video, filmed on July 10, shows heavy rain battering the car during a storm, when suddenly a bolt of lightning lights up a tree to the left of the highway.

The filmer later wrote online: "I was driving from St. Louis, Missouri through Canton, Missouri with my family when we encountered some heavy rain.

"As we drove north we could see that it was clearing up but all of a sudden lightning struck on the opposite side of interstate 61."

"It was very loud and woke up all my kids," he continued.
