EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT ABDEL FATTAH AL-SISI DELIVERING REMARKS AT SHARM EL-SHEIKH PEACE SUMMIT SHARM EL-SHEIKH, EGYPT - OCT. 13, 2025 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT “EGYPTIAN PRESIDENCY - RESTRICTED” HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO —EDITORIAL USE ONLY— Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi delivered remarks at Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit on Monday (Oct. 13). US President Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi have co-chaired the summit, attended by leaders of more than 20 countries, to solidify the ceasefire and advance post-war reconstruction efforts in Gaza. Egypt said the summit it is hosting aims “to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East, and usher in a new phase of regional security and stability.” Earlier Monday, Hamas and Israel carried out a prisoner swap that saw hundreds of Palestinian prisoners released from Israel's notorious Ofer military prison, and Israeli prison facilities in the Negev Desert. All 20 living Israeli hostages were also released from captivity. Last week, Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a plan he laid out Sept. 29 to bring a ceasefire to Gaza, release all Israeli captives in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip. The first phase of the deal came into force on Friday. Phase two of the plan calls for the establishment of a new governing mechanism in Gaza without Hamas’ participation, the formation of a multinational force, and the disarmament of Hamas. Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed over 67,800 Palestinians in the enclave, most of them women and children, and rendered it largely uninhabitable.
