2. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) PALESTINIAN FISHERMAN, RESHAD RUCAB AL-HISSI SAYING:

“Life used to be good. We were happy and living in peace until the war started against us, and everything became difficult.
We used to work at sea, fishing, and we were content and doing well. Today, to be honest with you, life has become very hard. A person can barely find anything to be happy about. Everything we built has been destroyed, and our lives have been ruined. The Israelis are waging an economic war against us — they are blocking the sea, and our economy depends on it.
You should know that about one-third of the population are fishermen, and everyone depends on this work. When we catch fish and sell them, someone buys them, sells them again, and earns a living. This one earns, that one earns — everyone survives because of the sea.
Look at our boats — they’re small, with oars and simple engines. Life is tough, but we manage. I’m a fisherman myself, living near the shore, close to the people. Our entire life revolves around the sea — every job, every bit of livelihood comes from it.
Many fishermen have died at sea. I’ve seen it myself. God protect us. I’ve been through it; I’ve seen what happens to the crews — may God protect us all.”

4. PALESTINIANS ON BOAT GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - OCT. 30, 2025: Israeli strikes on Gaza’s ports have caused severe damage to dozens of boats and fishing equipment, leaving many Palestinian fishermen without their only source of income during the ongoing war.

The attacks rendered several fishing vessels completely unusable, dealing a devastating economic blow to Gaza’s already struggling coastal community.

Fisherman Rishad Rujab al-Hissi, whose family lost three members in the strikes, said their lives had been completely upended since the war began.

“Life used to be good. We were happy and living in peace until the war started against us, and everything became difficult,” al-Hissi told Anadolu. “These Israelis are waging an economic war against us — they are blocking the sea, and our economy depends on the sea.”

Despite losing his boats and equipment, al-Hissi said he and other fishermen have no choice but to return to the water. “Our entire life revolves around the sea — every job, every bit of livelihood comes from it,” he said.
