KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - NOV. 7: Israeli airstrikes destroyed the Cultural and Free Thought Association building in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, which had served as a center for children’s educational and social activities for years.
The building, targeted by the Israeli military, had long hosted artistic, cultural, and educational projects for children in the area.
Before the war, the association provided thousands of children with educational support, psychosocial rehabilitation, and art programs, making it one of Gaza’s leading civil society organizations.
The Gaza ceasefire deal was reached between Israel and Hamas in early October, based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.
Since October 2023, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 69,000 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them women and children, and rendered it largely uninhabitable.
