“We woke up to the sound of an explosion. My son wasn’t asleep. My wife, my three children, and I were sleeping. The explosion was strong, because I woke up immediately when it happened. My son woke up to the smell of smoke inside the house. He kept saying, ‘Dad, Dad! There’s banging on the balcony and smoke in the house!’ In less than a minute, the flames started coming out, and the smoke was entering the house.”

“I alerted my three children and my wife, and we took them out through the second exit of the house. Thank God, because if there hadn’t been a second exit, we would have suffocated inside. When we tried to reach the main exit, we couldn’t, because the fire was spreading at an abnormal speed and the smoke was already entering the house.”

“The army came and tried to justify it, tried to come up with an excuse, and they wanted to find even a simple explanation to claim that this was not done by settlers. We proved to them that I heard the sound, and my son saw the settlers running. Our neighbor saw maybe twenty masked settlers wearing the well-known settler clothing, and they were carrying sticks. My son, who is 11 years old, saw the last settler jumping over the wall. My wife also heard people speaking Hebrew before the fire, and she wanted to check what was happening, but they had already moved to the side of the house where they could set it on fire. When I took the children out through the exit and went back to extinguish the fire, my wife saw four settlers escaping over the wall.”

“And when I refused to shake hands with the officer, the soldier kept blaming me and asking why. I told him, ‘You came here to kill me on my own property.’ By Allah’s mercy, we are still alive. Otherwise, the same thing that happened to the Dawabsheh family would have happened to us, because the intensity of the fire was extremely strong. The sofas, the curtains, the gypsum ceiling, the air conditioner—these are all flammable plastic materials that ignite quickly.”

RAMALLAH, WEST BANK, PALESTINE - NOV. 8: Illegal Israeli settlers set fire early Saturday to a Palestinian home in the village of Abu Falah, northeast of Ramallah, and assaulted farmers, journalists, and foreign activists near Nablus in the occupied West Bank, local media said.

A group of illegal settlers stormed the outskirts of the Abu Falah village and torched the one-story home, causing parts of the house to burn, local sources told the state news agency Wafa.

The homeowner, Mohammed Basel Hamayel, described a harrowing escape to Anadolu.

"We woke up to the sound of an explosion... My son woke up smelling smoke inside the house," Hamayel said. "In less than a minute, the flames started coming out, and the smoke was entering the house."

He credited their survival to a second exit in the home. "Thank Allah, because if there hadn’t been a second exit, we would have suffocated inside."

Hamayel stated that his 11-year-old son and a neighbor saw around twenty masked settlers, dressed in typical settler clothing and carrying sticks, fleeing the scene. His wife also reported hearing people speaking Hebrew before the fire started.

He accused the Israeli army of attempting to justify the incident. "The army came and tried to justify it... and they wanted to find even a simple explanation to claim that this was not done by settlers," Hamayel said. "We proved to them that I heard the sound, and my son saw the settlers running."

Israeli forces raided the area and opened fire at residents who gathered near the scene, though no injuries were reported, the agency said.

The UN warned on Friday of a sharp rise in illegal Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, reporting 264 settler attacks in October alone, the highest monthly toll in nearly two decades.

In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem
