UNCAPTIONED: Volkswagen EV Owners to Gain Access to Tesla's Supercharger Network
Volkswagen EV Owners to Gain Access to Tesla's Supercharger Network. Volkswagen is the latest major automaker in the US to officially join the North American Charging Standard meaning that from November 18, VW electric-car owners will finally gain access to Tesla’s vast Supercharger network. But there’s a catch. For legal and warranty reasons, Volkswagen drivers will need to buy a VW-approved adapter before plugging into a Tesla charger. The adapter will cost $200, though original owners of 2025 ID.4 and ID.Buzz models will qualify for a $100 rebate. Used-car buyers, however, will have to pay full price. Eligible owners need to submit their rebate within 90 days of purchase and no later than July 15, 2026. Volkswagen says that owners of certain 2024 and 2025 ID.4 and ID.Buzz models will also be contacted for a recommended software update to ensure optimal charging at Superchargers. The brand had previously confirmed plans to build the NACS port directly into its vehicles starting with 2025 models, a promise the upcoming Porsche Cayenne EV will fulfill. For now, Volkswagen hasn’t offered an updated timeline for when its first cars will roll off the production line with the new charging port already built in.
