Exclusive- Candle-in-a-cup experiment sparks over 38 million views as kids react in awe
A simple science experiment has gone viral after TikTok creator Irina (@irina_irisc) wowed her children with the candle cup water trick. The clip has now reached 19.9 million views.
The video shows a candle floating in water, then covered by a glass cup. As the candle burns, the air inside expands and escapes as bubbles. Once the flame consumes the oxygen and goes out, the air cools and contracts, creating a low-pressure zone. This causes outside atmospheric pressure to push water into the cup, making the candle float higher.
Irina’s children react with excitement and surprise, with her daughter even trying to pull her younger brother away just before the water rises and extinguishes the flame.
