Escondido, United States - November 19, 2025 The all new Denny Sanford Elephant Valley at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park will officially open on March 5, 2026. Described as the largest and most transformative project in San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance’s 109 year history, it is designed to build empathy, understanding, and a lasting appreciation for elephants, while inspiring visitors to protect them and their native habitats. Elephant Valley will act as a bridge between critical science conducted in San Diego and collaborative elephant conservation initiatives supported by San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance across the African savanna. The experience will highlight global conservation partners and honor the vibrant cultures and local communities in Kenya where people and elephants live side by side. At the center of Elephant Valley is Mkutano House, a two story restaurant that will feature three distinct dining destinations: Mkutano, Ona Lounge, and Tu Grill. Drawing inspiration from the rich and varied culinary traditions across many regions of Africa and blending them with global influences, the menu will offer a fusion of familiar tastes with bold notes, inviting guests on a culinary journey that celebrates discovery and connection. The Safari Park spans 1,800 acres in Escondido and is home to more than 3,100 animals representing over 340 species. The destination offers guests of all ages an opportunity to deepen their connection to wildlife and the natural world. Elephant Valley will be included with Safari Park admission.
