LAVA BEING SPATTERED FROM KILAUEA VOLCANO, ACCOMPANIED BY SMOKE HAWAII, US - NOV. 25, 2025 - RESTRICTION: USERS MUST CREDIT "USGS" HANDOUT, MUST NOT OBSCURE LOGO — EDITORIAL USE ONLY - Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted at its summit on Tuesday, Nov. 25, sending lava fountains soaring roughly 400 feet (120 meters) into the air, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began in the early hours and continued with sustained activity through the day. According to USGS, light north-northeast winds pushed most tephra and volcanic gas toward the south-southwest, limiting direct impacts around the summit area.

Kilauea is considered the youngest and most active volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island. It has erupted almost continuously since 1983 and remains one of the world’s most closely monitored volcanic systems.
