Tesla Looks To Reset Strategy Amid Sluggish India Sales. The company has just opened its largest Indian sales and service hub in Gurugram, a combined showroom, charging centre and after-sales facility, even as sales remain far below expectations. Dealership data shows Tesla has sold just over 100 cars since its high-profile debut in July. Sources tell the BBC the company is now shifting focus toward strengthening the broader EV ecosystem, hoping that improving infrastructure will help revive demand. Tesla has struggled to convert interest India into purchases: out of around 600 bookings by mid-September, only a small fraction became sales after deliveries began. Meanwhile, rival premium EVs from BMW, BYD and Mercedes-Benz are performing strongly, buoyed by festive buying and tax incentives. Experts say India’s high taxes, slow EV adoption and Tesla’s steep upfront pricing remain major hurdles. The company is now pursuing a three-pronged strategy: boosting charging infrastructure, improving customer experience and pushing wider adoption — all in an effort to finally gain traction in India.
