【Voice_over】 A wave of niche and trendy sports is gaining momentum in China's Shanghai, fueled by demonstrations, public tournaments and pop-up themed stores and expos at several local malls. At a mall in the city's Xuhui District, an open tournament for amateur kickboxers drew participants from dozens of clubs across the region, pulling in crowds of locals and tourists. 【Sound_bite】 Local resident: "I think hosting games in the mall is a great choice -- it keeps them unaffected by rain or wind. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the kid players are so energetic." 【Voice_over】 At another shopping center, a "modern carnival" lets visitors try golf, tennis, aerobics, running, pickleball, cycling and Zumba. The event took place under a 6,500-square-meter canopy bringing an outdoor-sports feel to the downtown area. Data shows that sports consumption in the country is expected to exceed 980 billion U.S. dollars by 2030, nearly doubling its size from 2023. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
