4. VARIOUS OF SECURITY MEASURES BEING TAKEN AT COLOMBIA AND VENEZUELA BORDER COLOMBIA - DEC. 17, 2025: Colombia has reinforced its border with Venezuela on Wednesday, Dec. 17, by deploying police and special forces, amid rising security tensions and threats of invasion in the region.

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro’s “days are numbered” and warned that Colombia "will be the next”.

The security build-up is visible at the Simon Bolivar International Bridge, the main land crossing point, since the Venezuelan airspace has been closed. The border area is a long-standing corridor for Colombian narco-guerrilla factions and armed criminal groups, which US and Colombian authorities claim find refuge on the Venezuelan side.

Over the past week, violence in rural zones near the border escalated, with several bomb attacks and shootings killing civilians and police officers.
